
The goal of John Deutsch International Executive Programs at Queen's University is to be an international leader in the design and delivery of executive training programs for professionals in the public and private sectors worldwide. Queen´s University is well endowed with the expertise and experience to make a major contribution in this field.
The John Deutsch International Executive Programs will work toward bringing these intellectual resources together in a truly international center of excellence. In the future additional programs will be offered in other areas of economic, social, and international business development.

- We are happy to announce the 2008 PROGRAM ON INVESTMENT APPRAISAL AND RISK ANALYSIS which will be held from June 23 - July 18, 2008, and PROGRAM ON PROJECT MANAGEMENT which will be held from July 21 – August 1, 2008 at Queen's University, Canada. The Program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis has now been conducted on the Queen's campus for the past seven years during the month of June and July. Specially designed courses also have been prepared and taught by the JDI Executive Programs for the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Caribbean Development Bank and African Development Bank. Since 2000, a total of 349 public and private sector professionals from 44 countries have successfully completed this intensive program.

- January 21 – February 15, 2008 The John Deutsch International (JDI) Executive Programs, Queen's University conducted the Program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis for the Young Professionals who were newly recruited by the African Development Bank (AFDB) and affiliated financial institutions. The program was lead by Prof. Glenn P. Jenkins and his associates from JDI. The program was held in headquarter of African Development Bank, Tunis, Tunisia. The 38 young professionals who completed the course were from different departments of Bank covering both private as well as public sector lending.
- Training Program collaboration with SADC-DFRC This four-week program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis is for professionals working in private and public organizations covers modern techniques of finance, financial modeling, risk analysis, and risk management. The program has been divided into two modules each of two weeks duration. Module I was held from November 12-23, 2007, and Module II will be held from April 7-18, 2008 at the Eskom Leadership Development Centre, Midrand, South Africa. There were 38 participants from national and provincial treasure of South Africa. There were also few participants from Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA), Botswana; Development Bank of Southern Africa; and National Development Bank of Botswana. These participants were mainly director of Public Private Partnership department, Public Finance department, and Government infrastructure department of National and Provincial treasure of South Africa.
- September 3-28, 2007 Professor Glenn P. Jenkins with a team of lecturers from PIAR conducted the Program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis for the Office of the National Telecommunications Commission of Thailand. The 21 officials who completed the course were from the Office of the National Telecommunications Commission and the Thailand Development Research Institute. The Program was organized jointly by the JDI Executive Programs of Department of Economics at Queen's University and the Thailand Development Research Institute of Bangkok, Thailand. It was a wonderful opportunity for Queen's University to forge closer links with the Thailand Research Development Institute as well as Office of the National Telecommunications Commission.
- June 25 - July 20, 2007 the Program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis was conducted on the campuses of Queen's University, Canada. The main participants of the program were officials from such organizations as Tomil Trust & Assets Management Limited of Nigeria, Startrust Multi-Dynamics Inc. of Canada, FINCORP of Swaziland, Saudi Industrial Development Fund of Saudi Arabia, Lifegate Projects International Ltd. of Canada, Ministry of Finance of Sierra Leone, FRM Global IP Services Inc. of USA, Ministry of Finance and Bank of Uganda of Uganda, The Office of National Telecommunications Commission of Thailand, Finance and Development Company and the Hadeed Group of Companies of Antigua, United Nations Capital Development Fund, and faculty from the Eastern Mediterranean University and Cyprus International University of Northern Cyprus. It was the group of 16 participants from 14 different countries.
- From August 21 – September 1, 2006 JDI Executive Programs conducted a program on Project Management collaboration with the Development Finance Resource Center of the Southern African Development Community. The program took place at the Eskom Leadership Development Center in Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. 24 executives were enrolled in the programs. The workshop representatives are attending from the following organizations: Industrial Development Corporation (Agrotech Industrial Holdings) of Zimbabwe, National Housing Enterprise of Namibia, Industrial Development Corporation of Zimbabwe, Swazibank of Swaziland, Swaziland Industrial Development Company of Swaziland, FINCORP of Swaziland, Tanzania Investment Bank Limited, Development Bank of Namibia, Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency of Botswana, SADC-Development Finance Resource Centre, Agricultural Bank of Zimbabwe, Agribank of Namibia, Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa, Development Bank of Mauritius, Swaziland Industrial Development Company, National Development Corporation, and Basotho Enterprise Development Company.
- From June 26 - July 28, 2006 the Program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis was conducted on the campuses of Queen's University, Canada. The main participants of the program were officials from such organizations as The Trust Bank Limited of Ghana, Botswana Development Corporation, Ministry of Local Development of Nepal, Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) of Zimbabwe, Development Bank of Namibia (DBN), Ministry of Finance of Kenya, Agribank – Zimbabwe, Central Bank of Tanzania, National Department of Public Works of South Africa, FINCORP of Swaziland, the Ministry of Finance Malaysia, Petrobras Transporte SA of Brazil, and faculty from the Eastern Mediterranean University of Northern Cyprus and Northern Catholic University (UCN) of Chile. For the past 4 years, The Trust Bank of Ghana has used this program to upgrade the skills of its management staff by sponsoring one of its professionals to the program each year.
This past year a training-of-trainers course was run simultaneously with the regular course. Five participants from the SADC region and one university faculty member was part of this group.
- Training Program collaboration with SADC-DFRC This four-week program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis is for professionals working in private and public organizations covers modern techniques of finance, financial modeling, risk analysis, and risk management. The program has been divided into two modules each of two weeks duration. Module I was held from June 12-23, 2006, and Module II was held from 4 -15 September, 2006 at the Eskom Leadership Development Centre, Midrand, South Africa. There were 34 participants from at least 11 countries of the SADC region representing at least 16 development finance institutions. These participants were mainly Investment and Business Analysts, in the middle to senior management risk of their institutions.
- January 16-27, 2006 The John Deutsch International (JDI) Executive Programs, Queen's University conducted the Program on Investment Appraisal (Economic and Stakeholder Analysis) for the staff of the African Development Bank (AFDB) and affiliated financial institutions. The JDI has also delivered the Program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis for the AFDB in January, 2004 which was based on Financial and Risk Analysis Part of the course. This module, an Economic and Stakeholder Analysis, was a continuation from the first module of the training given previously on Financial and Risk Analysis. The program was lead by Prof. Glenn P. Jenkins and his associates from Queen's University. The program was held in headquarter of African Development Bank, Tunis, Tunisia. The 30 officials who completed the course were from eight different departments of Bank covering both private as well as public sector lending.
- From June 27 - July 29, 2005 the Program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis was conducted at Queen's University, Canada. The main participants of the program were officials from such organizations as Credit & Enterprise Development Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund, African Development Bank, Nigerian Mobile Telecommunications, Ministry of Finance and Economics Planning of Ghana, The Trust Bank Ltd. of Ghana, National Investment Bank Ltd. of Ghana, Volta River Authority (VRA) of Ghana, the lectures from the Department of Economics, University of Limpopo, South Africa and also the Private International Financial Analysts from Spain and Italy. We are very glad that some of the participants of the program found it so valuable that they took it for the second time. For the past 13 years, including those years when the program was conducted at Harvard University under the name of the Program on Investment Appraisal and Management, Volta River Authority Organization of Ghana remains loyal to the program and upgrades the level of its management staff by sending them to the program each year.
- In collaboration with the Development Finance Resource Center of the Southern African Development Community the Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis Workshop was prepared.
The workshop was designed to take place in two modules. The first module was delivered from 18th July to 30th July 2005. The second module is scheduled to be run from 6th November to 19th November, 2005. As well as the previous program the second module will take place at the Eskom Leadership Development Center in Midrand, outside Johannesburg, South Africa.
More than 30 executives are enrolled in the programs. The workshop representatives are attending from the following organizations: National Development Bank of Botswana, The Botswana Development Corporation, Lesotho National Development Corporation, Development Bank of Southern Africa, Development Bank of Namibia, National Housing Enterprise of Namibia, Agribank of Namibia, The Swaziland Industrial Development Company, The Swaziland Finance Development Corporation, Swazi Bank, Trans International Bank of Swaziland, National Development Corporation of Tanzania, Tanzania Investment Bank, The Industrial Development Corporation of Zimbabwe, Agribank of Zimbabwe, Development Bank of Zambia, ECOWAS Regional Investment Bank, The Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility, and President's Office of Tanzania.
- From September 5
to September 16, 2005 the Program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis was successfully delivered by Professor Glenn Jenkins and his Associates from Queen's University in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. The Malaysian organizer of this program was the Harvard Club of Malaysia in collaboration with the National Institute for Public Administration (INTA). This is for the eighth time that this course has been sponsored by leading academic and business institutions in Malaysia.
- From January 2005 the team of the JDI Executive Programs, Queen's University has started working as advisors to the African Development Bank in the area of Investment Appraisal. The members of the team are working on evaluation of four major infrastructure projects that will be considered in 2005 for financing by the African Development Bank. These projects are in the electricity, water supply, and telecommunications sectors. The appraisal reports completed for these projects are to serve as models to be followed in the future by the professional staff of the African Development Bank.
- From October 18 to December 10, 2004 the Program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis was offered at EDUPARK, Polokwane, Limpopo Province, South Africa. EDUPARK in Polokwane, South Africa is a state-of-the-art educational facility specializing in providing graduate and executive education programs to professionals in the public and private sectors of South Africa. The Governments of South Africa have made a major commitment to introduce systems for investment appraisal that will improve the efficiency of public sector investments expenditures. The participants in the eight week program in South Africa were from the Government of Limpopo Province, The National Treasury of South Africa, and the Development Banks of the Southern Africa region.
- In September 2004, Professor Glenn P. Jenkins with a team of lecturers from PIAR conducted the Program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis for the Government of Thailand. The thirty officials who completed the course were from the National Economic and Social Development Board, the Bureau of the Budget and the Ministry of Finance of the Central Government. The Program was organized jointly by the JDI Executive Programs of Department of Economics at Queen's University and the Thailand Development Research Institute of Bangkok, Thailand. It was a wonderful opportunity for Queen's University to forge closer links with the Thailand Research Development Institute. The Department of Economics, through the efforts of Professor Frank Flatters, had played a central role in the formation of the Thailand Development Research Institute during the 1990's. This Institute is now one of the top economic policy research institutes in Asia. Its members have frequently become cabinet members, and even the Prime Minister, of the Government of Thailand.
